I’ve been waiting to try Sushi Wasabi for a long time. It has 4 stars rating on Yelp and many Yelpers say this is the best sushi joint in OC. However, it is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so Saturday would probably the only day that would work for us. And don’t dare go without making reservations. They have a CLOSED sign hanging by the door all the time. Owner/Chef Katsu serves Omakase only and you won’t find any rolls, or yakitori skewers here. They don’t have fancy decorations nor pretty dish presentations. This is a place for sushi enthusiasts only.
Omakase only, no menu, no yakitori, no rolls, except for a couple of hand rolls…

New Zealand Snapper
This is the famous Blue Crab handroll. All real blue crab meat with mild flavored mayo sauce. Two thumbs up!!
It taste like Dynamite but without the strong flavor of mayo sauce. Scallops were baked to perfection, without drying the inside. However, we were not thrilled with the taste of the sauce.
Thick cut Japanese yellowtail; wifey complained my portion are so much fattier than hers… hehe… nom nom…
This is from Seattle, WA not from Kumamoto, JPN. Amazingly fresh oysters in ponzu sauce. Very tasty.
Topped with fresh grate wasabi root. This Chu Toro sushi will definitely melt in your mouth.
Imported from Japan. Taste very sweet and fresh. I never had such GREAT hotate sushi before. Chef Katsu explained with a big smile “this is Japanese scallop, you know Japan, very cold, scallops grow very slow. So it is very good”
Scottish Salmon topped with a very thin sliced of kelp and then sprinkled with roasted sesame. First time I had roasted sesame on salmon sushi, but it does bring out the flavor of the salmon. Very interesting dish.

Santa Barbara Uni, very fresh and above average quality. Though its not the best I ever had.
This is the 2nd and last handroll of the Omakase course. If you think Spicy Tuna is for sushi newbies then you are wrong. Chef Katsu has his own way of marinating and its slight spiciness doesnt overpower the tuna at all. I would say this is the best Spicy Tuna Handroll I ever had.
Encore #1 I just couldn’t keep my eyes off that bowl of blue crab and order another one.
Nothing special, but good as well.
The anikmo was just ok. Maybe it is not to my liking and probably would not order again.

Encore #2. Amy told me she’s done for the night, so I order another one to wrap up our Valentine’s dinner. She turn to me and said “How come you didn’t order one for me?!~” I was puzzled and said “Hon, I thought you said you are full.” “But I think I can have one more” =O
