I hear from my co-worker that after 50 words toddlers will learn other words very quickly.
Who knew Aiden has surpassed that?
So we wanted to write down how many words he knows at this point in time.
He understands so much, but speaking of course takes longer to get.
He not only knows Cantonese, but English as well.
Mandarin he can say 2 words.
I don’t think he understands, but he must understands they are positive words.
“愛你”
Some words he knows in Cantonese and in English.
Like head, mouth, nose, key, car, shoe, more, milk, eye, park (as in your car), duck, bag, sorry, bike, teeth, feet……
English: Aiden, Amy, hug, kitty, tree, bird, bear, baby, blue, puzzle, night night, go, hot, hi, hello, bye, bib, backpack, blow, goal, bottle, up, red, beep, poo poo, mat, croc, all done…
He says “move” and “mine”, so mean!
And of course like other kids, he loves to say “NO!”
He tries to say triangle, but it comes out as “gle gle” of course that doesn’t count.
He also does his best to say “excuse me, thank you, and please”
Pronunciation needs working though.
He even knows Costco.
Chinese he can say a lot more.
He will say
Wow… didn’t realize how much words he knows if I didn’t try to make a list.
Thanks Zhanara for the motivation to do this!
He’s definitely surpassed the 50 word challenge.
He also knows some sounds: like choo choo, shhhh, 哎呀, uh oh, moo, boo, hoo hoo (sound to make when someone gets hurt), woh woh (dog sound), 嘩.
And of course he is repeating many words we say, but I don’t know if that counts.
When we ask him questions, certain ones he can respond with short answers.
* Aiden has been dragging us to sit at the stairs, so perfect time for a rare family picture.
We went to feed the ducks, I ran for my life!
Those ducks were very persistent.
Anyhow, back to language….
He’s surprised us by saying a few sentences once in a while.
Like “Don’t touch it!” (must have learned from the teachers telling him not touch something)
“開俾仔仔”
Silly guy can barely use a spoon and now wants to use chopsticks.
He grabbed them when I put it down.
But of course he has no idea how to use it properly.
Ooo.. looks like pretty good form here.
But we’ll keep the chopsticks away from him next time, we don’t want him to build bad form.
21 months old – so amazed at his progress!
I wonder if he will know 50 english words by next week.
