San Diego Trip

Daddie has awaited this day for a long time!

DSC00524

Aiden is 2 and can finally sit seating forward in his car seat and as planned he slept on the way to San Diego.

DSC00531

Our big boy loves to stick his head out the window to catch a breeze!

DSC00532

Ah – nothing like breathing in freedom!

DSC00536

Time to kick off the day’s celebration with some Japanese food.

DSC00540

This San Diego trip is specifically for Aiden – to celebrate his Big “2” :X

DSC00543

What does our Birthday boy want to eat?

DSC00544

For now, it’s Mommie’s and Daddie’s choice.

DSC00545

Wasabi Octopus – my favorite item here (but of course none for Aiden)

DSC00548

Beef Tongue – I’d skip this.

DSC00549

Gyoza

DSC00551

Tsukeman – the broth was too salty, but I squeezed in some lemon and it was better.

DSC00553

Tonkatsu Ramen with Kakuni

DSC00557

Aiden loved his ramen.

DSC00561

All done!

DSC00564

It’s beautiful outside!

DSC00568

So much for Aiden to see.

DSC00570

But he wasn’t willing to hold our hands the whole way.

DSC00572

Off to the miniature train – the highlight for Aiden’s big day!

DSC00575

Birthday boy gets to ride with Daddie.

DSC00578

He’s so excited!

DSC00579

What a tiny thing – Daddie and Aiden can barely fit.

DSC00585

Not very comfy for adults.

DSC00594

But look how happy he is.

DSC00597

Who knew that right outside San Diego Zoo was this miniature train?

DSC00603

I’ve been there a few times and never noticed it.

DSC00615

And the ride begins…..

DSC00618

Many people walking by would wave at us.

DSC00631

So we asked Aiden to wave back too.

DSC00643

Now we are waiting to have his caricature drawn.

DSC00646

It’s not free – the guy said suggested donation is $10

DSC00649

I hate false advertising…

DSC00650

But I went for it anyway – another small memory of the day.

DSC00654

Aiden was okay sitting by himself some of the time.

DSC00655

The harder part was making him look at the artist.

DSC00656

I don’t think it looks anything like Aiden.

DSC00659

And afterwards we went to look at the ducks.

DSC00673

He was very happy.

DSC00680

Free things to do can be super fun!

DSC00681

Very active and always moving about.

DSC00682

And then he would sit down for a little bit.

DSC00686

Look around to see what’s going on.

DSC00688

Then continue on ….

DSC00697

There’s always something to see.

DSC00708

And people to copy.

DSC00727

He saw a Mommy holding onto her kid who was learning to walk, and wanted Daddie to do the same.

DSC00729

And now off to Extraordinary Desserts.

DSC00731

So much to pick from….

DSC00732

But none of what I’ve been craving for the last few years.

DSC00734

It was super sweet – and we didn’t finish this piece of cake.

DSC00736

Daddie got 3 flavor of ice cream – Vietnamese Coffee, Salted Caramel and Vanilla

DSC00741

We didn’t allow Aiden to try the coffee flavor.

DSC00749

He loved the Vanilla and didn’t want to share with Daddie.

DSC00752

“Yummy” was the first word out of his mouth when he took a bite of the cake.

DSC00760

But his behavior (especially prior to the food arriving) was poor.

DSC00769

We had to give him a short time out.

DSC00772

As you can see, he was different at the end.

DSC00776

Aiden was so exhausted he fell asleep when we got to the hotel.

DSC00791

The hotel gave him the dinosaur for his birthday – so nice!

DSC00792

Izakaya Sakura

DSC00793

Why did we pick this place?

DSC00794

For the Uni Don

DSC00795

Galen ordered lots of appetizers.

DSC00801

Mirugai sashimi… it was a major disappointment

DSC00802

fish was okay

DSC00806

Normally Aiden likes the steamed egg, but he couldn’t finish this one.

DSC00807

the cooked fish seems to taste best here.

DSC00809

Filler food for Galen.

DSC00811

At last after an hour wait, my main course arrived.

DSC00814

I was super hungry – to the point that I wanted to faint.  So food experience in San Diego – thumbs down!

DSC00823

Aiden is actually playing with his little dino.

DSC00833

Very surprised!

DSC00835

He also was not wow-ed by this hotel as he has been with other ones we’ve been to.

DSC00838

But he still found things to play with.

DSC00841

It was too cold to be in the pool at 8.

DSC00854

So we went to the spa instead.

DSC00855

At first we were just going to let him dip his feet in, but the water didn’t feel as hot after a while.

DSC00866

I think he enjoyed his first experience in the spa.

DSC00876

We didn’t have to share it with other people for long.

DSC00881

Luckily they had steps for him to sit on.

DSC00884

At time he didn’t even want me to hold onto him.

DSC00891

But I still stayed close enough to him…just in case.

DSC00917

We didn’t over do it, just 15-20 minutes of relaxing in the jacuzzi/spa.

DSC00921

The weather was much better after we left.

DSC00923

Too bad or else we could have gone in the pool.

DSC00924

We were so hungry but our reservations were at 11:30.

DSC00930

They were fully booked before that.

DSC00955

But we did buy some snacks to last us until brunch time.

DSC00977

Aiden kept wanting to eat the rolls.

DSC00980

Brockton Villa

DSC00982

Daddie’s drink.

DSC01000

Crayons to keep Aiden occupied.

DSC01020

Window view… although we did not sit at the window.

DSC01023

Daddie’s omelette

DSC01026

My meal

DSC01029

Aiden got to eat off our plates

DSC01032

Curry flavored clam chowder – surprisingly Aiden loved it!DSC01040

Time to relax and enjoy the view.

DSC01043

So many sea lions!

DSC01046

Beautiful view but quite sunny.

DSC01061

I couldn’t open my eyes.

DSC01067

I hope Aiden had a wonderful birthday, especially planned by Daddie.

DSC01068

By the look on his face he had a great time!

DSC01074

Aiden might not remember this when he’s older.

DSC01075

But it’s okay – LIVE IN THE MOMENT!

DSC01078

Photos to remember

DSC01105

2 years old – I’ve got to get baby out of my vocabulary

DSC01109

Let the Terrible 2 days go by quick.

DSC01116

And that concludes our family trip.
